Newcomers to Canada - An Introduction

If your application to immigrate to Canada has been successful, congratulations! You're about to make one of the most important moves of your life. As a newcomer to Canada, your life is bound to be full of all sorts of new experiences and surprises. To help ease the transition, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) offers a free publication called "A Newcomer's Introduction to Canada."

A Newcomer's Introduction to Canada - Overview

This book contains everything you need to know about how to prepare to move to Canada and what to do when you arrive. In particular, it lists the sorts of documents you will need to bring, some tips for how to settle in over the first few weeks, advice for getting important documents like a social insurance number and health care card and how to find a job-if you don't already have one when you arrive.

A Newcomer's Introduction to Canada - A Multi-use Tool

Don't be intimidated by the size of this book. You don't have to read it cover-to-cover. Just skim through the table of contents and find the subjects you're curious about. You can always refer back to it later. And be sure to check out CIC's web site as well so you can visit some of the web sites mentioned in the book.

A Newcomer's Introduction to Canada - Part of a Larger Picture

While "A Newcomer's Introduction to Canada" is a very useful tool, it's far from comprehensive. So when you arrive in Canada, you will be given another book: "Welcome to Canada: What You Should Know." This will give you much more specific answers to all of your questions.

For more information on either of these books, please visit CIC's web site.
