Canada Study Permits - After You Apply
After you apply for a study permit in Canada, a visa officer will review your application to make sure you have answered all of the questions, included all of the proper documents and paid the appropriate fee. If you have neglected to include pertinent documents, missed questions or failed to include your fee, you application will be returned to you for correction. Please note that if any of your contact information changes while you're waiting for your application to be processed, you must notify the visa office immediately to avoid problems or delays down the line.
Study Permits - Additional Information
In some cases, after reviewing your application a visa office may request that you come in for an interview, have a doctor perform a medical examination or give permission for CIC to perform a security check. Not everyone is asked to do this, but it does happen in some cases.
Study Permits - Once Your Application is Approved
Once your application for a study permit is approved, you will receive a confirmation letter. Please not that this is not your study permit! You will need to bring this letter with you when you come to Canada. An immigration officer will then issue you a study permit and a temporary resident visa (if required).
Study Permits - If Your Application is Rejected
If the visa office rejects your application, they will send you a letter explaining why. Common reasons for rejecting study permit application include failure to prove that:
- You enough money to cover your stay in Canada
- Your primary reason for being in Canada is to study
- You will leave Canada at the end of your study period.
If your application is refused, please contact your nearest visa office for more information.
