Canada Study Permits - Extending Your Stay
After studying in Canada for some time, many foreign students decide they would like to extend their stay in the country. If you're in this situation, check the expiry date on your study permit, because you should apply for an extension or renewal at least 30 days before your current study permit expires. If, however, you fail to apply before 30 days and your study permit expires while you're waiting for a reply, you may continue to study in Canada until you receive a response.
Extending Your Stay - Restrictions
Please note that you may not apply to extend your study permit beyond the date at which your passport is valid. In addition, if your current study permit expires before you apply for an extension, you must leave Canada while you attempt to restore your status.
Extending Your Stay - Restoring Your Status
If you lose your status as a student in Canada, you may apply to renew it within 90 days. You may stay in Canada until a decision is made, but you may not study until your application is approved and your status is restored. In your application, you will need to explain how and why you lost your status. You will also need to pay a fee to restore your status if your application for renewal is approved. Please note, however, that there is no guarantee that your application to extend your stay will be approved.
