Business Visitors Checklists
If you plan on entering Canada as a business visitor, there are a number of things you need to be aware of both before you apply and when you reach the border or point of entry. The same applies if you own or work for a company that plans on hosting a business visitor in Canada. Preparation is key to ensuring that the visit runs smoothly.
Business Visitors - Applying
- Determine whether or not you require a temporary resident visa
- Locate the nearest visa office and inquire as to how long it will take to process your application
- Fill out the application form and ensure you have all of your proper documentation and your application fee in place before you submit your request
Business Visitors - At the Border
It is crucial that you have all of the following documents with you when you arrive in Canada:
- A valid passport or other travel documents. Make sure they're valid for your entire stay.
- A valid temporary resident visa (if required)
- An official letter of invitation from your host company as well as letters of support from your employer and any other supporting documents
- 24-hour contact information for your Canadian business host
- Proof that you have adequate funds to cover your stay in Canada and your return trip home
Business Visitors - For Canadian Businesses
If you plan on hosting a business visitor in Canada, be sure to:
- Do a proper background check on your business visitor to ensure his or her credibility
- Keep in touch with the relevant trade commissioner
- Make sure you give your business visitor an official letter of invitation (two copies are preferred)
- Ensure your business visitor has 24-hour contact information for you in case a problem should arise
