You've decided to take another year of classes, continue in your job for an extended period of time or have changed the circumstances of your residency. Extending Your Stay in Canada - Special Cases
Most visitors to Canada are allowed to stay no longer than six months from the date of entry. If you can't remember the date you arrived, you will find it stamped into your passport, work permit or study permit. If you want to extend your stay, you must apply 30 days before your temporary resident, work permit or study permit expires. If you stay longer than the date specified in your travel document, you will be asked to leave the country, and your temporary resident status will be revoked.

If you would like to extend your stay while visiting Canada, go onto Citizenship and Immigration Canada's (CIC) web site and download the application kit. Read through the instructions carefully then fill out the form and send it in with the required documentation and fees. CIC will review your application and then respond to you within the time period designated on the form.
