Multiple-entry visas -- Canada
Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) issues two main types of temporary resident visas: single-entry visas and multiple-entry visas. The main difference between them is that single-entry visas allow you to enter Canada once, and multiple-entry visas allow you to enter and leave the country several times. Multiple-entry visas also allow you to stay in Canada for a longer period than single-entry visas.
Multiple-Entry Visas - Conditions
Multiple-entry visas are not unlimited. If you're unsure of how many times you can enter and leave the country, look at your multiple-entry visa, and it will state the number of times you can do so. Please note that Canada does not allow you to get a multiple-entry visa that extends for longer than your passport is valid. If your passport is going to run out soon, it is a good idea to renew it prior to applying for the multiple-entry visa.
Multiple-Entry Visas - Do You Need One?
It is a good idea to get a multiple-entry visa to Canada if you plan to:
- Visit several other countries or return to your own country while staying in Canada or
- Come and go frequently from Canada
Once again, however, please note that multiple-entry visas are not unlimited, so it is always a good idea to consult with a Canadian visa officer or your nearest Canadian consulate or embassy prior to applying so you can choose the visa that is best for you.
If you would like more information on multiple-entry visas, please visit CIC's official web site.
