Visa-exempt Travellers Visiting Canada
While Canada requires visas from citizens of some countries prior to entering the country, citizens from many other countries are exempt from this requirement. However, even if you fall into the latter category and do not require a visa, you still need to ensure you bring along the appropriate travel documents.
Visa-exempt Travellers - Necessary Documents
Visa-exempt travellers are still required to have a valid passport. And your passport should be valid for at least six months from the date of entry. For visitors from certain countries, this passport must be machine-readable or an e-passport. If you're not sure whether your passport fits this description or whether you are required to have such a document, please check with your nearest Canadian consulate or embassy. A complete list of Canadian consulates and embassies may be found on Citizenship and Immigration Canada's (CIC) web site.
Visa-exempt Visitors - No Guarantee of Admission
Be aware that just because you qualify as a visa-exempt traveller does not mean that you will be granted entry into Canada automatically. Reasons for refusal include a recent change in your circumstances or the discovery of a criminal record or other potentially disqualifying evidence. Your admission is up to the sole discretion of the immigration office who interviews you when you attempt to enter the country.
If you would like to learn more about whether you qualify as a visa-exempt traveller and/or what kind of documentation is required for you to enter the country, please visit the nearest Canadian consulate or CIC's web site.
