Filipino Workers in Canada

Each year, over 8,000 Filipinos enter Canada as temporary foreign workers (TFW). They work in a number of occupations, from manufacturing to care giving. The number of Filipinos arriving in Canada is expected to keep growing over the next several years as Canada strives to meet its soaring labour market needs. This creates a tremendous opportunity if you are a Filipino who would like to come to Canada as a temporary foreign worker.

Filipino Workers - How to Apply

Most Filipinos who want to work temporarily in Canada must apply for a work permit before they arrive in Canada. Here are a few guidelines to consider:

  • Check application processing times: These vary according to occupation. You can speed up the process by filling out the application correctly and including all necessary documentation.
  • Get an application kit : These are available online or from a Canadian visa office. Please note that before you apply, you must have a written job offer from your prospective employer and be able to prove you qualify for the job.
  • Submit your application: Make sure you send it to the appropriate visa office.
  • Find out if you need a passport or temporary resident visa: This information is available on CIC's web site or through your Canadian visa office.
  • Pay the appropriate processing fee: For a list of current fees, please inquire at your Canadian office or on CIC's web site.
